SHAMIEL SONI
Born and raised in Cape Town I spent more than half my life in the film business, working on films and commercials, working my way up over 20 years, over 1500 Commercials, 60 Feature Films and Long Form projects spanning 7 countries starting out as a PA, working my way up to being one of South Africa’s top 1st Assistant Directors & now working as a Director since 2014.
As a boy I always wanted to be a Director and was always inspired by great visuals, photography, films, architecture or even a beautifully crafted sofa, sports car, art and design. I had a love affair for all things visually beautiful. I also liked telling stories and used to day dream and imagine things a lot. I feel that the passion for visuals, stuck with me throughout my career and has made me not just a Director but a filmmaker who is in love with his craft.
I am very much into trends and like whatever is trending, I follow fashion closely, I also am an avid traveller, considering myself as someone who suffers from wanderlust. Photography and Football evokes a lot of passion in me. I am an avid Manchester City Fanatic.
As a Director my style is very much lifestyle, beverages and sport, I like bright colours, bold camera moves and a great story. Having been an Assistant Director, I have assisted some of the top Directors in the World and I feel I could Direct anything, from the Biggest Commercials to the most Outlandish Independent Films, Versatility and range is a strength of mine and I strive for perfection.
